India’s Rudram-1 Full Details – DRDO Success

India conducts an Air Strike on Pakistan in Balakot. Pakistan feels threatened. Pakistan runs to China and begs for LY-80 Anti Missile system and Installs them in India Pakistan Border. This LY-80 is a duplicate version of the S300 Russian Air Defense System. The radar in the LY-80 is IBIS 150 Type radar. This missile system has been installed 140 Kilometres from Indian Border. 

But now India can easily destroy the LY-80 radar System. This can be achieved using the Rudram-1 Missile.

We have heard about Rudram1, but the upcoming Rudram-2, Rudram-3. 

How will these missiles strengthen the Indian Airforce?

World War 2 was happening when bombs fell from the sky. But these bombs are released by Humans. They fly in Planes and drop Bobs in Targeted Locations. They have to calculate the distance to the target and release the bombs to hit the target. 

Years go and human Technology improved and the missiles will be given a target and it has to destroy the designated Target. Scientists started their research and new Weapons and missiles were created. 

On 1950 Guided Missiles were developed. Guided Missiles are given trajectory to reach their targets. The Locking of targets is categorized into three divisions of Missiles. They are called Active Missiles, Passive Missiles and Semi-Active missiles. There is also another method called Commanded Guidance. 

What is this Commanded Guidance?

A Missile has been launched the path can be set live by viewing through a screen. The Camera is set up in the front of the missile. The controller will have a Joystick to guide the missile to its targets. This is called Commanded Guidance. But it has to be operated by a human. To overcome this the scientists developed another technology called Autopilot System. There will be a computer inside the missile which determines the trajectory of the Missile once launched.

So the AutoPilot System has three categories. Active, Passive and Semi-Active.  

Let’s discuss Active Missiles. When launched the Missiles have radio Signals. We need to understand the radar System. Radars identify Enemy Aircraft which enter our Airspace. So Through Radio Frequency, the radar will identify the aircraft flying in our Airspace. If Radar Systems are destroyed then a country's Air Force can be disabled. Without the radar, the Airforce can't do anything. This is the reason many countries target the radar system of their enemy. The missile which DRDO has successfully developed is the NGARM(New Generation Anti- Radiation Missile). So the devices which emit radio signals can be destroyed by the NGARM.

In times of war, only Radio Signals are used to communicate. Even the communication devices can be detected and destroyed by the NGARM. When a Missile with this technology is launched it will identify the radio signals from the Radar System and will destroy it. This is called Active Missile system. 

Before the Launch of Semi-Active Missiles, other missiles will be launched to a target, these missiles will emit Reflected waves and this will be sent to the Semi-active missiles to accurately hit the target. This is called Semi-active Missiles.

The Passive system doesnt emit radio frequencies. This system will identify the Radio Signals from the enemy radar and load it in the memory of the system. So the Memory of the location will guide the missile to its target.

If there is active mode why bother with Passive Mode?

In Active mode, the Radio Frequencies from the missiles will be emitted. So the chances of locating the Radio Frequency from the missile by the enemy is greatly possible. So when the Missile is in the air using the Radio Signals the missile could be destroyed by the Enemy. This is why Active Radio Missiles are a failure model. But the Passive Missile system is hard to detect. If the enemy has tracked the missile they cant easily destroy the missile. So the Passive Missile System is the biggest threat to the enemies. 

Rudram-1 is a Passive Guided Missile. This is an Air to Surface Missile. So Rutram-1 can be launched from a Jet Fighter to destroy land-based Targets. DRDO has successfully developed the missile. Rudram-1 is also an Air to Air Missile with Active Guidance System. The Modified new systems will be developed continuously.
Rudram-1 has been attached to the Sukhoi-30MKI which has been successfully tested. This missile has a weight of 600 Kilometres and more. When DRDO successfully tested the Indian made Missiles, The International community considers this as an achievement by India. The range of this missile could be 150 Kilometres and 250 Kilometres. This Rudram-1 can easily destroy the Pakistan Stainoned Chinese LY-80 Missile system. 

So Rudram-1 Range is high, it’s Passive Mode System and it also has the INS(Inertial Navigation System Composition). For ex: A Missile has been launched and the missile has identified the enemy targets. When the enemy sees the missile in the air, they will shut down the Radar System. So the radio Frequencies will not come from the radar system. The Missile may lose its trajectory because it will not be able to radiofrequency. To Overcome this Confusion the INS Technology has been used. The INS system will memorize the Radio Signals location. So if the enemy shuts down the Radar System, the missile will remember the Locations and destroy it accurately. This is called the INS system. Rudram-1 also has GPS technology. There is more technology in the Rudram-1. But that information cannot be revealed in the Public Platform.

America has AGM -88E missile, Russia has Kh-31P, Brazil has MAR-1 all these are Anti-Radiation missiles. These three missiles have a range of 100 Kilometres. But Rudram-1 initial Range is 150 Kilometres. There are chances the Missile range can reach 250 Kilometres. So Rudram-1 is clearly advanced than the other three versions. 

DRDO has announced that there are chances they may complete testing Rudram-2 and 3. Rudram-2 may have a range of 330 Kilometres range. The missile can accurately hit the target which is 330 Kilometres away. Rudram-3 may be a Heavy Weight Anti-Radiation missile. It may have a yield of 1.5 ton and its range may be 550 Kilometres. DRDO has already developed the Prototype of these missiles. 

We have discussed Rudram-1 Air-to-Surface missile. The Country which can develop this system can easily develop Air-to-Air Missile system. The enemy Aircraft emits Radio Signals, Using this Signal the Rudram-1 can easily destroy enemy aircraft and the Indian Scientists are currently developing it. 

Rudram-1 Primary function is SEAD(Suppression of Enemy Air Defense). The Primary Objective of the Rudram-1 is to completely destroy the enemy Airforce. When Rudram-1 is launched it is followed by Cluster Bombs. The Cluster bombs will completely destroy the Radar System of the enemy. So for 6 months, the enemy can't do much in the area. If Rudram-1 destroys the enemy targets. Our Indian Airforce will have no problems destroying the enemy completely.
